Sleeping Baby Hearing Test

Sleeping Baby Hearing foundation
& Sleeping Baby Hearing Test App

The Sleeping Baby Hearing Foundation, a 501c3 organization, has been established to promote early identification of hearing loss in newborns and infants. The earlier that hearing loss is identified and treated, the better opportunity that a child has to develop speech and language and to achieve their genuine developmental potential.

The Sleeping Baby Hearing Test App is a new iOS smart-phone/mobile device app that enables mothers to perform a non-invasive, behavioral hearing screen at home with their newborns, age 2 weeks to 6 months of age. The app is offered as a free download for humanitarian purposes.

The original Sleeping Baby Hearing Screen was developed by the late Dr. William F. House, the pioneer of cochlear implants. The current SBHT App was developed by
Eric M. Kraus, M.D., M.S. , F.A.C.S.

"Can My Baby Hear" Video

"Can My Baby Hear" was the origlnal video used by Dr. William House during the development of the Sleeping Baby Hearing Screen. The video demonstrates how mothers should perform the Sleeping Baby Hearing Test - Home Hearing Screen. The video was created by audiologist, Shawn S. Goodman, Ph.D.

The original video shows a sound level meter being used for the hearing screen. When performing the hearing screen using the SBHT App, a smart-phone or mobile device that uses the iOS platform (version 5.0 or later) such as the iPhone, iTouch, iPad, or IPad Mini is used to measure the level of sound of the mother's voice while she performs the hearing test screen with her baby. The app contains an easy-to-use, built-in, self-calibrating sound level meter.

The Foundation has plans to produce version 2.0 of the video using a smart-phone and mobile device.
